FC Kurdistan

Founded by everyone. Owned by no one.

FC Kurdistan

Every people has a club. We have four parts of a homeland and not one club allowed to carry the name. So we founded it ourselves. No stadium. No federation. No board. The members are the club.

The club

Why this club exists

Kurdish football is played everywhere and belongs nowhere. There are teams in Amed, in Hewlêr, in Qamişlo and in Mahabad, and there are teams of Kurds in Hannover, Stockholm and Paris. What there has never been is one club that everyone can point at and say: that one is ours.

A club normally starts with a ground, a licence and a board. We have none of those and we are not waiting for them. A club is a name that people agree to carry. That is the whole trick, and it is the only part that cannot be taken away.

So this is what FC Kurdistan is: a name, a crest, and a list of people who decided to be members of something that does not have permission to exist. The list is the club. Nothing else.

The archive

The archive that never was

Old clubs have cabinets full of shirts: the 1974 away kit, the 1986 cup final, the one with the terrible collar everyone secretly loved. We have none of that, because our club was not allowed to play.

So we build the archive backwards. Every drop is a season from a league that never happened, made the way it would have been made then: heavy cotton, an embroidered crest, a number on the back and nothing else.

We say this plainly, because it matters: none of this is found heritage. Nothing here pretends to be a real historical shirt. It is the archive we should have had, made now, by us.

Frequently asked questions

What is FC Kurdistan?

A football club owned by its members instead of a federation or an investor. It has no stadium and no league. It exists because people agree to carry the name and wear the shirt.

Is FC Kurdistan a real football team?

It is a real club and not a competing team. There is no squad and no fixture list. What there is: a crest, chapters in six cities and a growing list of members.

What does a membership cost?

Nothing until the first season opens. Founding members join the list for free and keep their number for good.

What is a season?

Our word for a drop. Each one is a shirt from a year that never happened for Kurdish football, made in the style of that era. It is a homage, never a claim about history.

How do chapters work?

A chapter is a city with enough members to be one. We start with Hannover, Berlin, Stockholm, Paris, Amsterdam and London, and the members decide which city is added next.

When do the first shirts arrive?

When they are good enough and not a day earlier. Members hear it first, and nobody outside the list gets access before them.
